Job Summary:

DT Professional Services is seeking a Life Underwriting Specialist in a remote capacity! The ideal candidate will evaluate individual applications and benefits including more difficult case analysis requiring a higher level of knowledge both medical and non-medical than the Senior Underwriter level, using appropriate guidelines to ensure rate classification is in line with corporate underwriting philosophy; assist in training and acts as mentor to underwriters; communicate with agents and applicants; consult with chief underwriting officer, medical directors and reinsurers; provide technical underwriting expertise within the company and to the agency force.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, classify and underwrite individual applications and benefits within approval limits, up to $2,500.00
  • Proactively increase agent knowledge of individual insurance concepts especially with their high net worth clientele
  • Consult with field (Agent/DM, etc.) regarding current or potential life insurance applications to review underwriting requirements, guidelines, and practices
  • Underwrite the most complex financial, medical and non-medical policies and researches issues as needed
  • Inform chief underwriter or underwriting management of any unusual or unexpected trends found during daily underwriting
  • Consult UW Specialist II or Chief UW Officer as needed on unique or complex issues
  • Assist in training of external and internal company representatives including development and presentation of case studies and relevant underwriting topics when requested
  • Develop close collaboration and business relationships with internal and external customers
  • Determine when reinsurance involvement is necessary and communicate with reinsurance underwriters when necessary
  • Keep updated with ongoing relevant issues pertaining to underwriting such as advances in clinical medicine, medical testing or financial tax regulations
  • Provide timely and professional communications to internal and external customers on various tasks relating to the underwriting process
  • Increase knowledge and comfort factor in collaborating with advanced sales unit under the direction of chief underwriter and Underwriting Specialist II
  • Work closely with internal partners, including Distribution and Advanced Markets on business case by determining business or net worth value and advising on Underwriting requirements related to life insurance for business needs
  • Work on complex business cases, such as buy/sell arrangements, deferred compensation, split dollar and executive bonuses
  • Provide assistance and guidance on valuing large estates/trusts, estate protection, charitable remainder trusts, generation skipping trusts for personal life insurance cases
  • Trains and mentors other Underwriting staff
  • Performs duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years of Life Underwriting experience, including at least 2 years as a Senior Life Underwriter (or comparable experience)
  • Understand compliance and regulatory landscape within the scope of underwriting
  • Strong PC skills with emphasis in MS Office
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

The compensation for this position: $42.00 - 50.00 / hourly.
